In Vantaa we focus on the changing areas of Tikkurila and Aviapolis and look for new ways how a city can enable independent city making. How to design for long-term sustainability – studies on Myyrmäki, a 70s suburb

After half year of collaboration between Nordic CityMaking & Aalto University, the students of Aalto Urban Planning Studio course present visions for a sustainable & inclusive future for Myyrmäki in Myyräncolo – a bottom-up-initiated co-working & cultural hub. Commentators include international urban experts, key decision-makers and city planners and local activists and residents. The event is also the opening of the Aalto Studio course exhibition.

Vallila Walkshop

A desk is a dangerous place from which to view the world, said author John Le Carré.

In the booming neighbourhood of Vallila in Helsinki we will workshop on foot = walkshop. The challenges we’ll work on: how to transform a busy road into a people-friendly street, and how to reinvent an industrial site as a place to stay, work & live in.
